My name is John Passmore and for 25 years I was a newspaper reporter. I worked for the Daily Mail, the Daily Telegraph and the London Evening Standard. For the last 15 of those years, I covered wars, revolutions and natural disasters, ending up as Chief Correspondent of The Standard.
The money was good but from time to time people would shoot at me. I began to wonder what would happen if I met someone who was actually a good shot.
And so, at the age of 45, I retired to live the simple life on a small boat with my wife Tamsin and a dog called Blue.
But the trouble with choosing the simple life on a budget is that it can get more complicated - and go over budget.
