I used to be a newspaper reporter - in various guises I worked for the Daily Mail, the London Evening Standard and the Daily Telegraph, specialising in wars, revolutions, the Royal Family - and, just for a change, travel.
Now, with my wife Tamsin, I run a bed and breakfast in a rural Suffolk. How this came about you can discover on our other website

But there is something rather comforting in going back to one's roots and reporting the momentous happenings in a small and charming market town.
Besides, I'm told it's good for the Google rankings...

Blue sky and blossom! And this was the view of the river when I took the dog for her morning walk.
Actually, the dog managed to get herself marooned on the wrong side of the creek - daft animal went racing up and down trying to find her way back.

Off to Snape Maltings for our annual trip to the Co-Op Juniors' Christmas Spectacular. This is the most extraordinary event: A cast of 104, umpteen costume changes, professional routines - and all born out of nothing but enthusiasm, committment and an awful lot of rehearsal time.
Our own children are inveterate performers but even we baulked at what we would have to put into the "Juniors ". It must take over people's lives - but from the audience point of view, thank heavens for that...
